Maureen Killaby is a working artist of 10 years from Oregon and Washington State, moved to Lindale, Texas in 2004. She currently teaches art classes at Tyler Junior College School of Continuing Studies since 2006. Her passion for art began years ago with oil glaze paintings and in recent years grew to include pencil art. She has spent many hours studying the history and the old master's art.
After receiving a law degree Maureen picked up the pencil and painting as a hobby and quickly became obsessed with graphite and now is a full time artist and teacher. Maureen teaches graphite and colored pencil classes for adults as well as lead instructor for kids camps in the summer, believing in the importance of enriching young minds in the arts. She received her first commission in 2001 and has since received additional commissions from corporations and families in Tyler as well as some as far away as Phoenix, Arizona and Wisconsin. She teaches privately in her studio and workshops in and around the state of Texas.
After taking workshops with Jeff Watts, Charlotte Wharton, Bruce Greene, Martin Greele
and more recently, Romel De la Torre. The Creative Arts Center in Dallas has been a new teaching venue for her as she conducts two workshops a month specializing in teaching her drawing techniques. Maureen is pursuing a drawing and painting from life career and will continue to teach what she has learned. m
